Youth Programme
All Stars 5-8 Years Softball
Friday nights from 10 May to 19 July inclusive.
From 5pm to 6pm.
All equipment provided.
Led by trained Activators and DBS Supporters.
We participate in the England and Wales Cricket Board national programme for children taking their first steps into cricket. We incorporate the eight week programme into our longer summer training offer so that there is safe, fun, cricket games and skills between May and August. The emphasis is on fun through cricket themed activities, but these are designed to develop fundamental movement skills that help children develop their all round physical ability. Children also learn team work skills, independence and social skills. Parents and carers are encouraged to take part as well at the appropriate times if they wish to. Please see more information here and book through the England and Wales Cricket Board website.
Dynamos 8-11 Years Softball
Friday nights from 10 May to 19 July inclusive.
From 5pm to 6pm.
All equipment provided.
Led by trained Activators and DBS Supporters.
Also part of the England and Wales Cricket Board national programme, Dynamos provide growth in children’s cricket skills. Also an eight week programme, we run this in parallel to All Stars. It is not necessary to have taken part in All Stars. You can join with no cricket experience. The emphasis is still on safe, fun, cricket games and skills, just a little more challenging and toward the end of the training a little more competitive. Children start to learn how cricket works as a game and the activities become more focused on cricket skills. Please see more information here and book through the England and Wales Cricket Board website.
Under 10 Years Softball
Take part in the U10 Softball West Devon Youth League.
Games between May and July.
All equipment provided.
Supervised by a Core Coach with a Foundation coach and DBS verified supporters.
New for 2024, our U10 squad provides the route into fun, developmental cricket games, that start the journey into games that you would recognise as cricket. Games are a pairs cricket format with eight minimum players, lasting 16 overs per side. The rules are simplified with teams starting on 200 runs, scoring runs when batting and losing runs when losing wickets. Each pair bat for their allotted overs, no matter how many times they are out. Children learn how to call and run between the wickets, fielding positions, the spirit of playing as a team and growing as an individual with batting, bowling and fielding. The squad progresses children from Dynamos into game formats, although it is not essential to have previous cricket experience to take part.
Under 13 Years Hardball
Takes part in the U13 West Devon Youth League.
Games between May and July.
All equipment provided except personal protective items.
Led by a Core Coach and a Foundation coach with DBS verified supporters.
This years’ squad competed in 2023 as an U11 team, achieving a mid-table position. The team will move into playing cricket, normal rules, this year, having played pairs cricket last year. This will be a key development for them. The emphasis is still on safe, fun cricket, but with a definite move to team tactics, reading the game, building innings and defending a total. Children will start to learn about how to cope with competitive pressure, winning and losing as a team and working week to week to improve. Children will start to learn personal responsibility within a team context.
Under 15 Years Hardball
Takes part in the U15 West Devon Youth League.
Games between May and July.
All equipment provided except personal protective items.
Led by Core Coaches with DBS verified supporters.
This is the team’s second year in the league and will benefit from last years’ experience at this level. The standard of the league is very good, with many opposition team players competing in adult teams in the Devon league. Our own players have made similar progression in to Menheniot-Looe’s second and third XIs and they are supported to do so if they wish to. The U15s is the final progression step before adult Saturday cricket in the Cornwall Cricket League and provides normal rules cricket in a 20 over formal. Players will focus more on their personal contribution to the game, refining and improving their skills. Emphasis is still to be safe and fun, but with a culture to win as a team and develop team spirit and positivity when winning or losing.
Performance Pathway
By invitation.
All equipment provided except personal protective items.
Led by Director of Youth and Core Coaches.
We have a good history of our players representing the club at County Representative Age Groups. Currently we have one player at County U12 and another working hard to re-enter the county programme having been included at U11 last season. Coaches will identify throughout the season potential players that can be nominated for county selection. Nomination happens following a conversation with the player and family regarding the commitment needed. Throughout the season, identified players will have a more challenging level of training and during August will receive dedicated one to one training to prepare them for the autumn selection process.
